Who we are
Roots Adventure helps people preserve family history through educational content, digital archive products, and genealogy research services. You can contact us at info@rootsadventure.net.
Information we collect
We collect information you choose to provide, information needed to operate customer accounts, technical information required to run the website, and limited records connected to purchases, support, and services.
Customer account information
Customer accounts are powered by Supabase. Account records may include first name, last name, email address, authentication or user identifiers, account timestamps, and order, entitlement, message, or project records connected to the account.
Contact and support messages
When you use the Contact form, Roots Adventure may process your preferred name, email address, enquiry category, message, and submission timestamp. The Contact form does not accept file uploads and should not be used for passwords, payment-card details, raw DNA files, government identifiers, or unnecessary sensitive details about living people.
Purchases and orders
Current public purchases may take place through Etsy or, for testing, through PayPal Sandbox checkout in the website account workflow. Etsy and PayPal purchases are also subject to those providers' own privacy, commerce, and account terms. Roots Adventure does not currently process raw payment-card numbers through this website.
Genealogy research information
If you commission research, we may process the family-history information, records, questions, documents, notes, and correspondence needed to provide that service. Research information may include sensitive family context, so please share only what is necessary and what you have the right to provide.
Sensitive family information and DNA
Please avoid unnecessary information about living people. Do not submit raw DNA files through the public Contact form. Any future DNA-assisted service must be handled with evidence-aware, privacy-conscious safeguards.
Authentication and security
Supabase Auth handles account authentication, password storage, password resets, session management, and related security mechanisms. Roots Adventure application code must not store plaintext passwords.
Browser-based tools
Some browser worksheets and tools may temporarily process entries in your browser. Where a current tool runs only in browser memory, those entries are not transmitted to Roots Adventure. This browser-only statement does not apply to customer accounts, contact messages, purchases, or commissioned services.
Third-party providers
Roots Adventure currently uses Supabase for customer authentication, account, order, project, messaging, entitlement, and email-capture foundations; PayPal Sandbox for test checkout; Resend for Contact form email delivery and Supabase authentication email through SMTP; Vercel for website hosting; Porkbun for domain and email forwarding infrastructure; and Etsy for current external commerce.
How information is used
We use information to operate the website, create and protect accounts, respond to enquiries, provide support, maintain order and service records, deliver current and future account features, prevent misuse, and comply with legal or business obligations.
Legal bases and lawful use
Depending on the context, information may be used to perform a requested service, take steps before a service, comply with legal obligations, protect legitimate business and security interests, or act with your consent where required.
How long information is kept
Contact messages are normally retained for up to approximately 12 months unless they become part of an active order or research project, longer retention is needed for legal, accounting, or security reasons, or shorter retention is appropriate. Customer accounts, orders, and research project information may be retained as needed to provide downloads, order history, customer service, legal records, accounting records, security review, and project continuity.
Information sharing
We do not sell customer family-history information. We may share information with service providers that help operate the website, authentication, email, hosting, domain, commerce, support, or research workflows; when required by law; to protect rights and security; or with your direction.
International processing
Roots Adventure operates from the Philippines and serves customers worldwide where services and platform availability permit. Providers may process information in other countries according to their infrastructure and legal terms.
Security
We use reputable providers and access controls appropriate to the current service. No website can guarantee perfect security, so please use a strong password and contact us if you believe your account or information may be at risk.
Your choices and rights
You may contact Roots Adventure to request access, correction, deletion, or help with privacy questions. Some records may need to be retained for legal obligations, accounting, fraud or security review, completed transactions, or dispute resolution.
Account deletion requests
Account deletion is handled by request rather than instant deletion. This protects order history, legal records, accounting records, and commissioned research history that may require careful review.
Children and age
Purchases, commissioned research, customer accounts involving purchases or projects, and submission of personal family information are intended for adults 18 and older. Public educational content may be browsed generally.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when the website, providers, legal requirements, or services change. The updated date will show when the policy was last revised.
