About these Terms
These Terms govern use of the Roots Adventure website, public educational content, customer accounts, digital products, and genealogy research services. By using the website or creating an account, you agree to use Roots Adventure lawfully and respectfully.
About Roots Adventure
Roots Adventure provides family-history education, digital archive products, and genealogy research services worldwide where services and platform availability permit. Public contact is available at info@rootsadventure.net.
Eligibility and customer accounts
You must be at least 18 years old to make purchases, commission genealogy research, submit personal family information, or use a customer account connected to purchases or projects. Public educational content may be browsed generally.
Account security
You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential and for activity under your account. Do not share accounts, bypass access controls, or unlawfully access purchased files, private project content, or another customer's information.
Digital products
Roots Adventure digital products are designed to help customers organize and preserve family history. Product descriptions, included files, format details, and compatibility notes should be reviewed before purchase.
Genealogy research services
Roots Adventure may provide commissioned research effort, analysis, organization, and reporting. Service scope, deliverables, timelines, and required customer information may vary by project.
Research limitations
Genealogy research cannot guarantee that a parent, ancestor, ethnicity, record, relationship, or specific historical fact will be identified. Records may be incomplete, contradictory, unavailable, misindexed, damaged, restricted, or newly interpreted when later evidence appears.
Customer-provided information
You must have the right to share any material you provide. Please avoid unnecessary sensitive details, especially about living people, and provide context clearly so research can be handled responsibly.
Living people, DNA and sensitive family information
Information about living people, DNA, adoption, parentage, health, identity, and family conflict can be sensitive. Do not submit raw DNA files through the public Contact form. Future DNA-assisted services must remain evidence-aware and privacy-conscious.
Payments and third-party payment providers
Payments may be processed by third-party providers. Roots Adventure does not receive payment-card credentials when payments are handled by those providers. You may also be subject to the payment provider's own terms and policies.
Etsy purchases
Current public purchases may occur through Etsy. Etsy purchases are subject to Etsy's checkout, payment, privacy, refund, and account terms as well as any Roots Adventure product terms shown with the product.
PayPal Sandbox checkout
PayPal Sandbox checkout is connected for digital-product testing. Live PayPal checkout is not enabled on the Roots Adventure website until production credentials and launch approval are complete.
Digital-product licence
Unless a different licence is stated, purchased digital products are licensed for the purchaser's personal or family-history use. You may not resell, redistribute, republish, sublicense, publicly host, or publicly distribute purchased archive files unless Roots Adventure explicitly permits it.
Intellectual property
Roots Adventure branding, website content, product designs, templates, educational material, and original written material are protected by intellectual-property rights. Your family materials remain your responsibility and are not transferred to Roots Adventure except as needed to provide requested services.
Prohibited use
Do not misuse the site, interfere with security, attempt unauthorized access, scrape private areas, submit unlawful content, infringe rights, distribute malware, harass others, or use Roots Adventure to expose sensitive family information irresponsibly.
Refunds and cancellations
Digital-product refund rights are subject to applicable consumer law and the purchase platform. Where legally permitted, digital products are normally not refundable after access or download. If a product is defective or corrupt, Roots Adventure will attempt correction, replacement, or remedies required by applicable law. For custom research, cancellation may be possible before work begins; once research begins, completed research time is normally non-refundable, and any partial cancellation may be based on work not yet performed. This policy does not limit rights that cannot legally be excluded.
Service availability
Roots Adventure aims to keep the website and account areas available, but access may be interrupted by maintenance, provider outages, security updates, internet issues, or provider availability changes.
Third-party services and links
The website may link to or rely on third-party services such as Supabase, Resend, Vercel, Porkbun, Etsy, and future approved providers. Third-party services operate under their own terms and policies.
Disclaimer of research outcomes
Family-history work is evidence-led and interpretive. Roots Adventure may offer research judgments and summaries, but no research conclusion should be treated as a permanent guarantee when records are uncertain or new evidence becomes available.
Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by applicable law, Roots Adventure is not responsible for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, loss of profits, loss of data, or claims arising from unavailable records, third-party providers, customer-provided inaccuracies, or misuse of family information.
Account suspension or termination
Roots Adventure may suspend or limit account access when needed to protect customers, comply with law, investigate misuse, address security concerns, or protect purchased/private content. Where reasonable, we will try to resolve account issues fairly.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms when services, providers, products, checkout options, laws, or operational practices change. The updated date will show when these Terms were last revised.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of the Philippines, without excluding consumer protections that may apply where required by law.
