DNA is a clue, not a conclusion
DNA matches, ethnicity estimates, and relationship predictions can suggest useful research paths. They do not automatically prove a family story, identify an ancestor, or explain a relationship without context.
Good DNA-aware genealogy asks what the match may mean, what documents support it, what relationships are possible, and what private information should not be exposed.
Context protects people
DNA work can involve living people, unexpected relationships, adoption, misattributed parentage, medical sensitivity, and private family information. Public launch content should never invite raw DNA uploads or promise automated DNA analysis.
Combine clues carefully
Useful context may include:
- Known family tree structure
- Shared surnames and places
- Documentary evidence
- Timelines and migration patterns
- Match clusters recorded outside this public site
- Clear notes about uncertainty
How Roots Adventure treats DNA at launch
